When can I apply for my Provisional Driving Licence?

You can apply for your provisional driving licence up to 3 months before your 16th Birthday. You can apply using the relevant form from the Post Office, or apply online

Can I start taking driving lessons before I do my theory test?

Yes, as long as you have a valid UK provisional driving licence, then you can take lessons anytime from your 17th birthday

Will I drive on my first lesson?

Yes. I guarantee that you will be driving on your first lesson. I am that confident, that if you don’t, you will get your money back for that lesson!

Which is best to learn in, Manual or Automatic?

I have taught many people to drive over the years & can safely say that everyone is different, one thing which is common though is most find something difficult when learning to drive, this could be perhaps dealing with roundabout's or parking, others find operating a clutch & gears difficult. You may be learning to drive right now or have previously tried but struggled with the clutch & gears or maybe you have a disability that stands in the way of changing gears. Well if you are finding this a case for yourself then a automatic may be the best option for you as an automatic vehicle has no clutch to operate or gears to manage meaning its easier to drive & in some cases a faster route to passing the driving test. So what’s the catch? There is only one, having an automatic licence only permit’s you to drive an automatic vehicle. Don’t let this put you off though as it could be your key to getting a driving licence. Still not sure? Well don’t despair, I offer both manual & automatic driving lessons so why not try both, once you have tried them we can then discuss which is the best option for you.

What do I need to bring with me on my first driving lesson?

On your first driving lesson (whether you have driven before or not) you need to bring your provisional driving licence and payment for the lesson (unless already pre-paid). Please also bring along any glasses/contact lenses if you are required to wear them, and sensible footwear!!

How do I pay for my driving lessons?

Payment is taken at the start of the lesson, payments are accepted via cash or direct bank transfer, please note though cleared funds must be received before the start of your lesson if paying by direct transfer, ask for your instructors bank details when booking.

How long are your driving lessons?

Driving Lessons are typically 1.5 or 2 Hours long - it`s entirely up to you. I can even do 3 hour lessons. Standard lesson duration is 2 Hours, please specify if you wish for a different duration upon booking.

How many driving lessons will I need?

The Dvsa surveyed a number of recent passes and found that on average a complete beginner takes around 47 hours with a qualified driving instructor plus 20 additional private practice hours before passing a Uk driving test. This is, however, an average and you may well require fewer or more lessons than this. There are various factors that come into this, mainly how frequent you take driving lessons as the longer gaps there are between lessons, the longer it will take you. You’re driving instructor will assess your progress and advise you when to book your driving test

Can I have lessons in my own car?

Yes however your first lesson will be in one of our School cars so that your instructor can assess your ability. The instructor will then decide if you can drive your own car in your lessons. Remember that our car’s have dual controls so make it much safer. You would need to ensure you have the appropriate insurance in place and be able to produce the policy to your driving instructor if future driving lessons were to take place in your own car.

Can I be picked up and dropped off in different areas?

Yes, it’s quite common to collect you from college and drop you after your Driving Lesson at home.

Can I have evening and weekend Driving Lessons.

Yes. Lessons are available from 9.30 am till 7pm Monday to Thursday, 9am till 2.30pm Friday & 8am to 1pm Saturday. Lessons that start at 5.30pm onwards during weekdays are the most popular times and tend to get booked up far in advance so its worth booking in good time.

Will I have the same driving instructor throughout my lessons?

Yes

Do I use my instructor`s car for my driving test?

Yes, you would use your instructor`s car for the test, you also have a pre-warm up before the test, this is usually an hour before the test but could be increased for pupils leaving further away from the test centre.

Once I pass my theory test, how long is it valid for?

Your theory test is valid for 2 years from the date you pass it

What if I need to cancel or re-arrange a driving lesson that has been booked?

If you need to change or cancel a driving lesson that has already been booked, please contact you’re driving instructor, please however note that there is a 48 hour cancellation notice which should you cancel in, the full lesson fee will still be payable.

Will I be charged if I change or cancel a lesson at short notice?

You need to give at least 48 hours’ notice to change or cancel a driving lesson, or you will be charged by your driving instructor

Do I need to have passed my theory test before starting an intensive driving course?

Ideally, yes but not a must. A lot depends on the period of time over which you are looking to do the course. Typically, the waiting times for the theory test are 2 weeks and for driving tests between 4 and 8 weeks. The practical driving test cannot be booked until the theory test has been passed

Can you book my practical driving test for me?

Yes, as long as you have already passed your theory test we will be happy to book driving tests for my pupils, monies owed for the test will be made payable in advance before booking.

Yes, the industries recommended material to use is the Official Dvsa training material, this can be via either Books, CD Rom or via Apps. Speak to your instructor on where best to find this material.
